Denis Rovira Van Boekholt is considered one of the directors of the new generation of Spanish Fantasy and Horror genre filmmakers.
After shooting three multi-award-winning short films “ANGEL”, “LAZARUS TAXON” and “EL GRIFO”, on July 21, 2019 Denis released his first feature film as director and co-writer. “LA INFLUENCIA” (aka “THE INFLUENCE”) is a Supernatural Thriller produced by Nadie es Perfecto (Madrid) with the participation of RTVE, ICAA, Sony Pictures and Netflix. Emma Suárez, Maggie Civantos, Alain Hernández, Manuela Vellés and Claudia Placer are part of the cast.
“LA INFLUENCIA” is distributed by Sony Pictures and ranks between the top 5 and 10 places in the Spanish box office in June-July 2019. The film is currently available worldwide on Netflix.
In 2020 Denis directed 3 episodes for reboot series thriller/suspense “EL INTERNADO. LAS CUMBRES” (aka “BOARDING SCHOOL: LAS CUMBRES”), produced by The Mediapro Studios and Buendía Studios. The show has a cast headed by Asia Ortega, Mina El Hammani, Ramiro Blas, Natalia Dicenta, Albert Salazar, Claudia Riera, Joel Bosqued etc. It premieres on February 19, 2021 on Amazon Prime with great national and international success.
In 2021 Denis is commissioned to direct 4 episodes of the second season of “EL INTERNADO. LAS CUMBRES”. It premieres April 1st 2022 on Amazon Prime Video.
This same year he directs 2 episodes of “WARRIOR NUN II”, produced by Netflix Studios (USA), Reality Distortion Field (Canada) and Fresco Films (Spain). It is premiered worldwide on November 10th 2022.
In 2022 he directs 4 episodes of the successfull Netflix Original Spanish series “BIENVENIDOS A EDEN 2”(aka “WELCOME TO EDEN 2”). Belinda, Amaia Aberasturi, Amaia Salamanca, Begoña Vargas, Berta Castañé or Guillermo Pfening are part of the cast. Premieres early 2023.
Currently, Denis is developing new feature film genre scripts.
